Andrew's friend South African Trevor Van Rooyen, returned to the UK in the summer of 1978 to do a few F3 races with the works March team, a break from racing for Team Gunston in Formula Atlantic at home. A couple of 4th place finishes before a big crash at the Donington European F3 meeting which hospitalised Trevor for a few days. Andrew helped him by taking corner times on the stopwatch in testing and qualifying, to compare his speed against the likes of Piquet, Prost, Warwick & Lammers.
